I can no longer FTP/upload with Dreamweaver. It says it cannot get the time-sync with the server. Then stops trying to upload. When I check the server with another FTP program, I see that DW has created a new directory called ZYIZNWSK. This is consistent. What is going on? I tried an un-install and re-install of DW, but no diff.

That directory name smacks of “temporary”. Is DreamWeaver configured to use a temp directory somewhere, and then rename or move the files that created there? I had a similar problem with an FTP upload for my webcam, and the solution was to eliminate any TEMP files that it wanted to create.

Alternately, have you tried establishing a connection with the remote server and then attempting to FTP to the site?

I also considered it being a “temp” directory…but it stuck with that name each time. I thought temp names rolled/changed so as to not overwrite each other. Whatever…

My ISP did something (I don’t know what…just a lot of typing) and I reset my upload to “passive FTP” and everything now works. I still don’t know what all was up.

        Thanks for your help!

          FWIW:
A search on Google eventually threw up this discussion here.

          The final post says:[indent]

Dreamweaver and Dreamweaver UltraDev create this directory when
synchronizing sites (to get the time and date on the server). They
should be erased automatically after the synchronization, but maybe
something happened during the synchronization and they weren’t erased.

And here is the low down direct from Macromedia

Thank you!!! I tried to find info on Macromedia’s site, but it isn’t very easy to navigate and locate over there. Turns out something had to be reset on my hosted server…and I had to un-select then re-select “Passive FTP” within Dreamweaver.

It works now. Thanks for your efforts!!!

Do you have Ultradev/DreamweaverMX, or just vanilla Dreamweaver 4.0 (or earlier)? Dreamweaver MX and Ultradev allow you to define a testing server for live data purposes. Is there any chance you’ve assigned your “live” site as the testing server?
