I’m using XP pro Sp-3 & have IE8 which when I go to the windows update site, fails to work giving the error message:
Please change your Internet Explorer security settings
To save changes to your settings for this website, you need to enable userdata persistence for Internet Explorer. Complete the steps below, and then click Change settings to the left and try saving your changes again.
In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the Security tab, click the Internet security zone icon, and then click Custom Level.
In the Settings dialog box, scroll to the Miscellaneous section.
Under Userdata persistence , select Enable.
Click OK and when the security warning dialog box appears, click Yes.

Well Userdata persistence is enabled! And I’ve tried several “trial & errors” w/o any success!?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried resetting IE – Tool | Internet Options | Advanced | Reset (button)?

Yes Joe & thanks for the response. That was one of my trial & error actions that was heaped onto the error pile. I’m quite baffled as I’ve helped others as well as myself on more difficult matters but, it appears that this is proving to be difficult. I’ve tried other versions of IE as well as other browsers.

Do you have a recent restore point you could use?

Thanks for the suggestion Joe. Unfortunately, this problem has existed since I did a clean re-install about 6 months back. I’ve used Chrome, hitch free since. Unfortunately too, is the fact that Windows requires IE in order to do the update:(

Have you tried adding to Windows Update to the Trusted sites?
