Greetings All
I was dismayed by Susan’s report that blue screens were showing up on Lenovo laptops with AMD processors. Guess which kind I have. So, I tried my hand at Wushowhide to block the March update. This was my first usage of Wushowhide. At first run, the cumulative update didn’t show, but I found a post stating Wushowhide doesn’t work with updates paused. I clicked on resume updates and saw the normal litany one would expect there, then immediately ran Wushowhide. It found all the lesser items as well as 5035853. I only clicked its box and then clicked on hide. After churning about a bit, it said I was successful, and the update was hidden. Returning to Windows update, I noted that Net framework and the other lesser updates were all absent and that 5035853 was in the process of installing. After a successful reboot, Windows update showed that the cumulative update, and only the cumulative update had been installed. The Net framework update was in the optional area along with a Lenovo system update. I went ahead and installed them both. Running Wushowhide again found no updates, both the available and hidden sections were empty. I went back and checked to see if I was supposed to uncheck the boxes of what I wanted hidden. No–I had gotten it right. I guess I don’t know how to use the tool. If it can’t see the update with updates paused, and clicking resume updates starts an irreversible process, I don’t understand how to make it work.
So far, no blue screens. I don’t see an option now to remove the update. I do have a Macrium image of the February update, so I can go that route if necessary, but I’ve made a lot of changes this month and would just like to revert to the previous if possible. Thanks as always for all the great advice contained at Ask Woody.
