wushowhide abnormality

A few days ago I took the usual steps to download and install three “hidden” updates after receiving clearance from the latest Master Patch List using the wushowhide protocol. During this process, wushowhide also listed for installation three other patches that are shown on the latest Master Patch List as “defer.” So, I checked the boxes for these on the hide updates screen. I did a screen print of this to retain for future use. I received the confirmation screen that indicated that these were hidden.

The next day I checked the wushowhide hidden items screen and none of the three were shown, the only item there is a Silverlight patch which has been there for months.

Any idea what is going on with the three hidden patches which I’ll most likely need in the future once the OK is given on them?

Replies

If the hidden patches were superseded, they will disappear from the hidden list. Example: If you hide the Jan CU, and the Feb CU has been released (which supersedes the Jan CU) the Jan CU is no longer available and will disappear from the hidden list.

If the hidden patch is pulled by MS, it will disappear from the hidden list. Example: KB4524244.

The patches at issue never actually appeared on my “hidden” patch list in wushowhide. I think I checked it almost immediately after hiding them. I think they are the latest patches that were all issued on February patch Tuesday. They are: 4534132, 4537759, and 4532693. All were placed in “defer” status by Susan on the latest Master Patch List. All three are still in the Catalog, so I don’t know if they could have been superseded or pulled.

What were the parches you hid?
Did you look at the “Update History” to verify the three hidden updates were NOT actually installed?

They are: 4534132, 4537759, and 4532693. All were placed in “defer” status

Windows Update and wushowhide show patches available/pending for your computer. You can only hide patches that are available to be installed.
If you hid them then “Deferred” patches, they will not show up in the WU queue OR wushowhide until the deferral period has expired. That is why they are not in the hidden list.
And it is my guess that when the deferral period ends, you will again need to hide them when they show up again available in WU and wushowhide.

Thanks for your responses. Just when I thought I understood the wushowhide/SAC deferral process I find out I’m wrong AGAIN. I do not understand what you mean by all were placed in “defer” status. Are you referring to having SAC Quality set to 30? When I hid them they were available to be installed and SAC Quality was set to 0.  Are you saying that having SAC Quality set to 30 days prevents a previously-hidden patch from appearing as hidden in wushowhide and that it will only display as hidden once 30 days pass or SAC is set to 0? I check wushowhide daily for patches available to hide. Generally only MSRT patches or Defender Security Intelligence Updates are there. I install these whenever they appear. Any other patches are either allowed to install or hidden depending on their Master Patch List status.

That’s exactly what I’m saying. Deferred patches are not available to be installed, hidden, or displayed in Windows Update or wushowhide.
FYI: wushowhide uses the Windows Update Service to search for updates the same as Windows Update does.
