Microsoft, in it’s infinite greed wisdom, has decided to block ALL windows updates on Win7 machines running on 7th Gen Intel CPUs.  Of course, this block has nothing to do with actual compatibility of the updates. They are not blocked on a per update basis, by compatibility, as one would expect. Once windows update sees a 7th Gen CPU, it simply pops up the “Unsupported hardware” window shown below. No way to update through windows update at all. Security updates that run flawlessly on 7th Gen CPUs are blocked as well.

Seems that Micro$oft has found yet another ugly way to shove windows 10 down our throats. At least let us have the f%#ing security updates?! They ARE compatible with 7th Gen CPUs!

Luckily, a clever programmer that goes by Zeffy wrote a small, persistent patch that makes sure that IsCPUsupported() always returns a positive value. I’ve installed windows updates successfully on a 7th gen CPU after applying his patch. This will, of course, not make updates that are truly incompatible with 7th Gen CPUs magically compatible, but I’ve yet to come across such an update.

The only thing I’ve found wufuc breaks so far is a full SFC scan, which reverts the system back to it’s previous unpatched state, but he’s working on a way around that.
