Worthless Gripe on Help Files (MSAccess XP)

Well, I’m not the first to gripe, and I’m thankful that I kept a copy of Access 97 on hand after I heard one of you mention that you do that and you would if only for the help files alone —

I’ve found what I want, the list of “reserved words” — but my blood pressure just began to skyrocket after I tried, first, to find the list in MSAccess help files, and then on Microsoft’s site after that — finally, remembering the Access 97 where I found the list.

What is with Microsoft and it’s help files? why is the user community just taking it meekly?

Or, even though I tried it several times and ways, did I miss something?

Well, enough of my ranting and raving! (Perhaps this should have gone in a different section …)

Yeah — you _would_ think so! And Microsoft web site support will very likely be as obtuse as their Help files. However, Access 97 to the rescue, again! Quoting from Access 97 Help files:

“Enable or disable automatic joins between tables and queries in queries
“Even if you haven’t created relationships between tables, Microsoft Access automatically creates joins if you add two tables to a query and the tables each have a field with the same or compatible data type and if one of the join fields is a primary key. You can enable or disable these automatic joins.
…. (stuff in between) ….
“If you disable automatic joins, you can still create joins yourself.
“This setting applies to new queries only. ” — end quote from Access 97 Help files!

Actually if you right-click on the AutoJoing option under Tools/Options Queries it says “What’s This” and if you then Left-Click on that it brings up a dialog box that says pretty much the same as the Access97 help. I suspect you would get the same thing if you tabbed to the option and then pressed F1. But you are right – no mention of it in Help – very frustrating.
