I don’t remember where I read it, but I read, if you put in your contact list, and sub folders, as the first entry, the name !000 and as the e-mail address “wormalert” that any worm that would try to send from your list of addresses that it would stop on this first name and would not continue?? Is that right?

No, it is not right. See HERE for an explanation.

        Here is another explanation: http://hoaxinfo.com/virusprevent.htm%5B/url%5D

“It sounds really good, and it will work with some of the older worms and viruses… [but] even if you stopped this mass mailing your computer is still infected!”

[/indent]Yes, it is an old fix, but it is one that costs nothing to use, and might just alert you that you have a problem – though it is certainly not a substitute for adequate anti-virus protection.

A good AV like Nortons 2002, will put a stop to this. With this version, the default setting is to scan OUT GOING email also. This pops up a yellew pane showing that you are sending, and is checking the file for virus.

As for the trick, it has never worked, just skipped that address and then went to the next one.

i prefer NAV on inbound mail only, if at all. If you don’t get the infected messages, you can’t be infected. And with so many new viruses including their own smtp servers, there is the potential to bypass NAV.

Remember there are other ways to be infected, netwok, internet, and the old floppy.

but if you have NAV on autoprotect, it’ll catch them. (if you keep NAV updated – but it won’t catch them on outgoing email either unless the definations are kept updated.)
