• Workgroup Templates (Office 2000-)

I’m trying to place all of the Microsoft templates into one folder since our workgroup templates have so many folders/tabs now. In Office 95, I was able to do this easily. However, now I only seem to find a folder with a number like C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeTemplates1033 with what appears to be all the templates. So, how does Office know to separate some of the files into separate tabs? Any clues would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

      Hi Cat:
During the installation of Microsoft Word 2000, all of the document templates are installed to the following folder: C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeTemplates1033

When you click New on the File menu, templates are “advertised” and are divided among the various tabs; however, if you view the Templates1033 folder, there are no folders, as in earlier versions of Microsoft Word, to contain these templates. Because these templates are installed by Microsoft Word 2000, Word internally “knows” which tab each of these templates belongs with and automatically sorts and places the template on its correct tab, without the use of corresponding folders in the Templates1033 folder.

To prevent a default tab from appearing in the New dialog box (on the File menu, click New), you must close Word & uninstall all of the templates that are located on that tab using the Add/Remove program from the Control Panel. [During remove, navigate to Features/Wizards & Templates/Not Available/ select the templates you wish to remove/Update Now]

NOTE: If you just delete the templates that are listed on the tab from the “C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeTemplates1033” folder, Microsoft Word still “advertises” these templates. If the template does not exist, and you click to select any of the templates listed on the Letters & Faxes tab, Word instructs you to install the template.

Therefore, to accomplish what you want, copy the templates you wish to preserve to a different location (a desktop folder is fine). Uninstall all the templates as described above. Now you can copy these templates to the a single folder within the 1033 folder.

Let us know how you make out. Hope this helps.
