I want to put some wordart into the top border.

In Page Options | Compatability, VML graphics & downlevel image file are both checked.

If i insert wordart in _borderstop.htm, the word art goes into that file, but does not display in any other file that uses the top border.

If i try to insert the wordart into the top region of anypage, the wordart icon is grayed out on the toolbar!

    I am getting nowhere fast.

Is there any way i can save a wordart object as a gif or jpeg file?

This works (using Word2002 on W2K but should work with earlier versions)

Start with blank page in Word:
Insert > Object > MS Word Picture
Click on the WordArt icon and do your stuff.
File > Save as Web Page
Locate where Word has saved it and with luck it will be called something like “image001.gif”
