We use the Marlett bullet (character 103 in Word2000 – I’m sure had a different number in Word97). We did have the capability of being able to do a search & replace in Word97, now lost in Word2000. I don’t want to start writing code. Can I just type the character code in find and replace with clipboards contents?
I’ve located a couple of character maps but would like to find one that includes all symbol sets – i.e. Marlett bullets. Any help or advice?

Try the Find Symbol macro in macros9.dot. To get more infor on this go to:

      Good Luck!

Thanks for the info. Will get the MS article. Didn’t find a macros9.dot but found macros8.dot. Maybe it wasn’t part of the install.

          Hi Patricia,

Word 2000 uses Unicode. Characters from old “decorative” fonts (like Symbol-, Wingdings-fonts …) are banned to a special code page (reserved for “private use”) starting at U+F000 (61440).
Since 61440+103=61543 you can find the character searching for ^u61543.

          cheersRegards, Klaus Linke

Thanks, Klaus. I tried that but it did not work – msg was “^u” is invalid code. So I tried searching for 61543 and that didn’t work either. What am I doing wrong?

Macros8.dot came with W97 – the W2k version should be macros9.dot. Speak to whoever installed your software to find out what happened to it – or try searching ‘my computer’ to see if it’s anywhere you aren’t aware of?

For me ^u is valid normally, but not in a wildcard search. Are you doing a wildcard search?

That was my first idea, too. And ^u has to be two characters (not the u with ^-accent).

Another method is to type Alt-61543 (hold down the Alt-key, then type the numbers on the numeric keypad on the right side of the keyboard. For this to work, NumLock must be active (if there is a lamp “Num”, it should be on).

              cheersGreetings, Klaus
