Word 2000 was obtained as part of Works Suite 2000. Had Windows ’95 and was able install SR-1a but constantly got message “Word 2000 is being Installed” when attempting to launch program and it would do so over and over (after 50 times I stopped counting) — but program would run OK after about 5 minutes of updating itself. Thought it might have something to do with Windows 95 so bought new hard drive and did a fresh install of Windows 98 SE. I can get Word 2000 to install from CD1 of Works Suite, but when I attempt to install the SR-1A patch it goes only so far and then asks over and over for disk with Word 2000 on it even though the CD-ROM with Word on it is in CD drive. There is no Browse command, just Insert disk with option of OK or Cancel. In any case it never installs. Has anyone else ever run into this? Could it be a bad CD-ROM (seems not to be the case since it installed OK from the CD-ROM originally)? Microsoft wants almost as much for a replacement CD as I paid for the Works Suite in the first place ($39 versus purchase price of $49 in August 2000 from Staples). Any thoughts appreciated. Would consider going to Word 2002 upgrade but have read that it is terribly buggy. Thanks.

I don’t think that the Office 2000 SR1 was designed to be used with Works 2000. I would use Word 2000 without the SR1 installed.
You might look at MS webpages to see if there is a Works SR1 release.

It is possible to install the Word 2000 from within the WORD sub-directory on Disk 1 of the CD-Rom so that no part of Works is installed, which is what I did. Also, before my hard drive died, used Word 2000 with SR-1 and Windows ’95 without any problem so it would seem that there is no difference in the “real” and Works Suite version of Word 2000. But since my Works Suite disk will not Autorun under
any circumstances and other CD-Roms will, I presume that CD-Rom is probably damaged, but I don’t know why I can install Word 2000 Ok but can’t install SR-1. Any additional thoughts would be appreciated.
