    Hello everyone:

Can some one kindly advise me on the following, I have a report which was developed from a template in Pagemaker. The question is, could I duplicate this report in Word, in addition part of the report comes from Excel, which should not be difficult at all to past into Word.

What are the problems, that I need to be aware of?

    Thanks

Without knowing what the report looks like, it’s impossible to say.

        Hello Hansv:

I understand your reasoning, however, the top of the report is texted, and the bottom portion is with a small part of an excel spreadsheet and a pie chart. I do not have the actual files, only a photocopy.

However, what I would like to know, that if I have to paste a small part of an excel spreadsheet, with a pie, would it be better to use paste, or paste special?

        Thanks

          dillon,

If one of the choices was always the best, then Microsoft could have saved a lot of programming by hard coding that selection. No one can answer questions like this unless you explain what your issues are.

For example, I often use Paste Special and include a picture of an excel spreadsheet pasted as an Enhanced Metafile, because this gives good PDF output for a report and keeps the file size of the Word document small. If I needed to be able to change the spreadsheet and have that reflected in the Word document then this solution wouldn’t work at all, I would then probably use Paste Link

The biggest issue with using a normal paste of an Excel chart into a Word document is that the entire spreadsheet is then embedded inside the Word file. This might not be a problem other than file size for you but could become a real problem if you send a copy of the Word document out to people who are not supposed to be able to see the data pages in the Excel workbook.

You may actually want to do this so people can drill down into the data so in certain circumstances this is a good thing. You can avoid this unintentional disclosure of data by using Paste Special or Paste Link.

Any look you can get in Pagemaker can be recreated in Word so yes it can certainly be done. The programs do work differently though so there may be lots of fiddling to replicate the exact look and Word may(or may not) be more labour intensive to achieve this task over many iterations of the report.

As Hans has said, without seeing the template we have no idea what issues you will run into. If there are lots of graphics, then you will probably need other software to create and edit these objects.
