Merged cells don’t work correctly after applying the patch. The only fix found so far is to uninstall KB 3213656. Post coming in Computerworld.

“Microsoft has not acknowledged the problem or offered a solution, and the official help on the forum runs in the usual “Re-install, start in safe mode, new user profile, go away” vein.”

Your seeing that as well eh? I am getting the impression that they are either swamped with the current ongoing patching debacle or they are simply “winging it” waiting for divine intervention. After a quick check of the, now missing, update History via the “uninstall updates” page in Win10 settings. I find I have yet to have the pleasure. Duely noted for future ignore thx again @Woody. 🙂

“Let’s hear it for Automatic Update.”

      Hip Hip Meh!

“We have applied KB3213656 to our Office 2016 environment in order to fix the Outlook spell check issue mentioned in the KB article. We have since noticed that this has broken tables in both Word and Outlook.”

So, it’s yet another patch that breaks previously-working functionality. GG MS!
And you want people to apply any and all updates you release on day 1. SMDH

We just saw this as well (patched last night). Very annoying!

Thanks. Uninstalling the KB resolved it for now.

We have come across this problem today and I cant seem to find the update to uninstall. We are running Windows 7 if that makes any difference. All help appreciated as it is affecting work documents.

This is what Woody says about it in this month’s ComputerWorld article

If you have Office 2016 installed, and you use merged cells in tables in either Word or Outlook, don’t install KB 3213656. Microsoft still hasn’t fixed the problem. If you see an entry in Windows Update for KB 3213656, uncheck the box so it won’t be installed.

The patch can be uninstalled if it was received through Windows Update by going to Control Panel\Windows Update\View installed updates. If you are using the subscription model, the patch may not be listed there.

This looks like a different bug – a different problem.

        Lemme dig into it.
