I recently had to change from a computer with Word ’97 to a computer with Word 2003. A document that used Outline formatting in Word ’97 that was stored on the Network Server printed as expected and showed up on computers having Word ’97 as expected. However, when the exact same file was viewed or printed from my computer using Word 2003 the formatting (in particular the Outline Numbering) was grossly changed. For instance I had many instances of 0. for major points that should have been 1. 2. 3. etc. Since my company has a mix of Word ’97 and Word 2003, if there are problems in trying to use and edit files interchangeably I need to find a way to minimize the difficulties. I wonder if saving files in .RTF might be a solution.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.
