    I created a template with a margin of 6.6cm.
Heading 2 indent was set at -5.5. The idea being to create this look:
    HEADING 1
    Heading 1 text.
HEADING 2 Heading 2 text……….. and when the text wraps it wraps directly beneath the heading 2 text that preceded it – at margin 6.6

This works great in Word 2007 and 2010. After I do the style seperator, I can tab to 6.6cm margin. Then, when I type, the text wraps correctly to the next line like so:
    Heading 2 text……….
    Heading 2 text continued.
In Word 2013, after I do the style seperator, I cannot move to the margin by way of Tab. It allows me 1 tab, then I have to do another seperator then another tab. When I do my text and it comes time to wrap, it wraps to the negative margin. So, the first line starts at 6.6 and the second starts at negative 5.5.

Has anyone else had this issue and if so, is there a fix or workaround, or, do we just have to wait and hope that Microsoft fixes it?

    Regards,

    Tim

Can you post a document that shows the issue you are having?

The problem you are experiencing is due to the dilemma of which paragraph settings apply when you merge two together. It appears the first style wins. If you modify the heading 2 style so it has a hanging outdent (first line -5.5, other lines at 0) then you only need a single tab and don’t need multiple SS’s to kludge an alignment together. I attached your file reworked to demonstrate this. I didn’t test in Word 2013 but I’m surprised you managed to get it to work at all in the earlier versions.

However, I would do this using text frames rather than a style separator. This deals with the long Heading text case that your SS solution won’t look so good with. The attached example has a text frame associated with the Heading 2 style instead.

Hello Andrew. Thanks so much for taking the trouble to investigate this. The Text Frame option looks really good and I think I shall stick with that.
As for the Style Seperator, just to see, I saved my document as a Word 2003 document. Once in compatibility mode, it operates exactly as I want. Save it as a 2013 document, and it stops working – or, works as you have described.
