It has just become obvious to me that I am using Word 2000 & would like to know if it is possible to download the 2003 upgrade free from the Microsoft web site, or am I living in Cuckoo land expecting something for nothing in this rip off generation? S Fox

Patch reliability is unclear, but widespread attacks make patching prudent. Go ahead and patch, but watch out for potential problems. |

AskWoody LoungerOctober 13, 2007 at 1:48 am #1079381The upgrade from Office 2000 to Office 2003 is not free – you have to pay for each new version.
For most purposes, Word 2000 is still a perfectly adequate word processing application. Unless you have a specific need for some of the new features in Word 2003, I’d stick with the version you have.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 13, 2007 at 3:47 pm #1079439Thanks HanzV I half suspected that was the case, (pay up or do without – typical Microsoft fleecing the public as usual-,) what prompted me to ask the question in the first place arose from the fact that someone mentioned in a thread on another forum that Ctrl + F1 opens a “Task Pane” but mine does not so I scrutinizing the list in Tools | Customize | Keyboard | All Commands | Commands, & discovered that there is no such option. On further investigation I discovered that I am running Word 2000 which apparently does not have task panes. That’s why I wondered if upgrading to 2003 would be of any great benefit but from what your say I will stick with 2000 as the benefits seem minimal. Thanks again. S Fox

AskWoody LoungerOctober 15, 2007 at 8:29 pm #1079613I must agree HanzV until I came across the thread that mentioned Ctrl + F1 opened task panes including the Clipboard, I was more than satisfied with what Word 2000 offered. All I have to do is master all it’s capabilities which I suspect is an ongoing challenge but I’m certain it has many features like “Track Changes” & “Creating Macros” which I have little use for seeing the “Auto Correct”, “Auto Text” & “Customizes Keyboard” are proving adequate for my present needs as I seek to make the mouse redundant. Regards S Fox
