I have been reading windows live privacy page and some questions crop up in my mind:

    PERSISTENT COOKIES
Windows live uses persistent cookies. Could they be flash cookies? If I use C cleaner at PC start up and after each WLM session, will it clear away these cookies?

    WEB BEACONS
I only use gmail with WLM. When sending emails, will WLM put web beacon on my email for tracking?

When receiving emails will there be web beacons put on my gmails?

    ADVERTS
Will clicking advertising in the email allow advertisers peek into email contents?

Hope you can share your thoughts and knowledge.
    Thanks
    Spec

Hi spec, set WLM options to read all messages in plain text.

thanks. that’s what i do in outlook express. only turn on html when want to click on link – so in WLM this will turn on web beacon and cookies.

To tell you the truth, I had never heard of ‘web beacons’ till your post. All I did was read about them by googling. Would using Gmail direct with HTTPS for sending & WLM only for reading. In WLM your only using a preview pane so mail is not actually opened, it could be a different scenario when clicking links.

the reason i stopped using yahoo was because of web beacons.

Web beacons require you to view the email in HTML format (this is the standard view) and then allow connection to embedded links. Lots of email clients now automatically prevent connection to embedded links to protect your privacy. Outlook and Thunderbird both do it, so I expect WLM does it as well.

      cheers, Paul

thanks, the more i read about WLM, the more i am concerned about privacy invasion. i think it will be my second choice after thunderbird.

I use Mailwasher to preview all my emails – only the ones I want to keep are then allowed onto my PC.

thanks, will check out mail washer. don’t have any spam problem. but signing up to windows live require accepting web beacons in my emails and persistent cookies.

No more than any other mail client that renders html as far as I’m aware.
