I just bought an MS wireless keyboard/mouse 6000 v2.0. Before I go running back to the store with it, can anyone tell me if I should be expecting indicators to come on when num lock and caps lock is on? I find the lack of this rather annoying and wonder if the board is defective or if I’m missing something in the gazillion buttons that this board comes with?

(In the same vein, the salesperson said that the keyboard would be backlit…it isn’t. Maybe he had the wrong version in mind when he told me that part though.)

I have used a number of wireless keyboards and these generally don’t have Caps Lock and Num Lock lights as this would run the batteries down.

My current Logitech wireless keyboard has these lights on the charging stand for the mouse, and also displays the Num Lock and Caps Lock status in very large green letters across the screen for a second or two whenever they change state.

Thanks Stuart! I didn’t even notice the lights on the wireless receiver as it is pushed to a back corner of my desk and semi-hidden from view…you are correct – that’s where the indicator lights are. Makes perfect sense now that you mention the battery drain part. As to the backlit issue – well, to me that was just a little perk anyways as I always end up typing in a darker room (my preference) so I won’t return it just for that as I do like the unit(s).

At Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Hardware – Keyboard Products the only wireless kb/mouse set that mentions a backlit KB is the 8000 series which is not even due out until September 2007. I’d take it back and make them show you it is backlit.
