I’m currently cleaning up my Windows 7 machine and am wondering if the free edition of WinPatrol is worth holding on to?

    (1) I’ve had it installed for years and can’t remember an instance where it’s saved my bacon
    (2) Much of its functionality already seems duplicated in Windows itself
    (3) It’s pop-ups after every install are starting to get annoying

I’d be interested in others’ opinions.

Useful for me to prevent unwanted startup programs.

Rather like Spybot – Search and Destroy and AdAware, WinPatrol used to be talked of and used.
I must say this is the first time I’ve noticed WinPatrol being mentioned over the last five or so years!
Software, particulalry in the AV area, does not last for all time.

Plethora means a lot to me.

@ BATcher: WinPatrol is still talked of, and used, by some of the best Windows security/anti-malware experts. It’s still relevant today, protecting the auto-start items from being changed without the explicit agreement of the user, in some respects, similar to the SpyBot TeaTimer option but IMO, much less likely to interfere with normal Windows and security processes.

FWIW, I agree with Satrow. I’ve used WinPatrol for years, and found it so helpful that I upgraded to the
      paid version years ago.

I’ve used it for a few years and its saved my bacon a couple of times. I really like the fact that it will tell me if a program is trying to change my registry. Scotty does a good job, this program is worth it.
