Winipcfg does not work in XP – is there a similar command to check your broadband connection?

click on the network connection, support tab. if the icon is not showing in the tray, open the network connections folder and right click, select Status.

(To show it in the tray, click properties, then check the box to show in tray)

Further to what Mary posted, there is also a commandline tool called IPCONFIG. Start -> Run -> CMD and then enter IPCONFIG. The options for this tool can be displayed by entering IPCONFIG /?.

There is also a nice GUI front end for this that makes it look and act like the version that comes with Win9x. You can download it from Microsoft’s Technet website.

Hi mark – I downloaded and installed the wtnipcfg – how do I get to the “command prompt” to run it?

Start | Run, type:
cmd
and press Enter

You don’t need to run it from a command prompt – it should have wound up installed in Program FilesResource Kit; you can create a shortcut to WNTIPCFG.EXE anywhere that you would like to have it.

At the command line, you can enter IPCONFIG, but the GUI version is a lot nicer to look at!
