I have been experiencing problems recently where windows has been iether a. freezing, no mouse or keyboard etc or b. totally crashing with the blue screen of death. I came here earlier today and read some historic posts looking to resolve my problems. I started by downloading Ad-aware 2007 which was advised in a few posts. Once downloaded, I selected to run the ad-aware, but windows crashed part way through. My problem now is that windows will not fully load so I am totally frozen out from my own pc. (Thank goodness for the work laptop). Did ad-aware find something fatal?? How do I now load windows?? Please helpNathan

Patch reliability is unclear, but widespread attacks make patching prudent. Go ahead and patch, but watch out for potential problems. |

AskWoody LoungerApril 28, 2008 at 11:22 pm #1107188I’ve run a quick scan that found 47 infections, 1 of which was critical (zango?), the rest tracking cookies. I don’t have a lot of knowledge in this area. If I post the xml output file, could anybody tell me if the 1 or other 46 infections would or could be the cause of my problems? Thanx

AskWoody LoungerApril 28, 2008 at 11:29 pm #1107190If they are only tracking cookies, I would delete them also but I don’t think they would give you any of the problems you are describing.
The other one????
Make sure that goes out!If that doesn’t fix you up then a Repair Reinstall might be in order. It’s quite painless, just takes a little time.

AskWoody LoungerApril 28, 2008 at 11:47 pm #1107195Thanks for your suggestions Bob. There are no yellow flags against any of my device’s, although many of the errors that I have encountered have provided error messages that are driver related. The full restore may be a problem for me as I have no idea where my windows xp disk is. The hunt continues…….
Thanksagain

AskWoody LoungerApril 29, 2008 at 12:53 am #1107196I tell a lie!!
Under ‘Other Devices’, I have ‘Raid Controller’ with a yellow exclamation mark over the top of a yellow question mark.
No idea what it is……
Also, Under ‘Network Adapters’ I have ‘1394 Net adaptor’ with a red cross over the top??
Added later…….
I’m loathed to touch this at the moment, as I have no idea what this ‘Raid controller’ is. Under properties, it shows ‘The drivers for this device are not installed '. If I select reinstall driver, it asks for a disk, which I don't have. I've searched on google for drivers, but am wary of downloading a driver for an unknown device.
If anyone knows anything about this subject and can help, I will be eternally gratefull.
Cheers

AskWoody LoungerApril 29, 2008 at 6:21 pm #1107274Please open Device Manager, right-click problem device and from pop-up menu select Properties. On the Properties window click Details tab and copy a string of weird characters looking like
PCIVEN_8086&DEV_100E&SUBSYS_01511028&REV_024&1C660DD6&0&60F0Post these strings of characters, please. It is easy to find the proper driver by the vendor ID (VEN_8086 means Intel) and device ID (DEV_100E means PRO/1000 MT Network Connection).
On the network adaptor open Properties and look on the error message under “Deivce status” on General tab. Post the error message, please.
By the way, what is the make and model of your computer?
