AskWoody LoungerJune 17, 2010 at 10:58 am #1229342Jim,
Welcome to the Lounge.
You can try to hide them. Right click on the uddates in Windows Update and choose Hide. They may disappear. However, if the are necessary updates and indeed did not install properly, this may leave you somewhat unprotected. This may be some other problem causing them to not install properly.

AskWoody LoungerJune 23, 2010 at 6:11 pm #1230525I’m having the same problem, and I’m also on XP SP3. Initially there were three updates but today it has grown to four. As soon as they’ve run, the update icon reappears in the system tray.
They are all .Net Framework-related: 3.5 and 2.0 SP2. (KB982524, KB979909, KB982168, KB974417.)
The Update History shows successful completion. I can’t ignore them, as they’re all high-priority. Rebooting doesn’t help either.

AskWoody LoungerJune 25, 2010 at 1:11 pm #1231017My own two cents:
They have been having this problem with .NET updates according to Susan Bradley’s PatchWatch column:
Patch Watch, June 24, 2010; The .NET updates get worse, not better
She mentions at least one patch from the list above and another fits my own problems with WinXP and a 2008 server I manage. I really don’t like the option of dumping & reloading all those versions of .NET but it’s looking like that may be the options of me.
QUESTION:
1. Has there been more out there to update her article?
2. What fixes have been working?
3. And is she ready to give the “go ahead” for any of them?Speaker
Forever grateful that we invented the fire axe first .

2. What fixes have been working?
3. And is she ready to give the “go ahead” for any of them?Yes, I’ve been wondering the same thing. I read Susan Bradley’s column and decided to hold off, but I’ve got .NET Updates bugging me
on both my WinXP Pro desktop and my Windows 7 netbook. I can’t find any additional information about whether it’s now safe to install them.

AskWoody LoungerJune 25, 2010 at 1:21 pm #1231019same problem here on 25 workstations.
You can hide them.
Click on the yellow shield and do NOT take the “express” install option (I can’t remember what the other option is called, it might be “manual”). The screen that comes up allows you to unselect even high priority updates. After you have unselected them click the install now button and you will be asked if you want to be reminded of these updates again. Select the appropriate response and the updates will be hidden until you go in and tell windows update to “show hidden updates”.
