I go to WinUpdate, and it says that 2024-01 Security Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5034441) is available.

Well, it downloads but keeps erroring out during install.

I tried using a clean install of W10, but that didn’t change anything.

Can I live without this update? If so, I’ll just forget it for now and see if things change as the time passes.

I tried running the Windows Update repair, but that did noting.

    Suggestions?

      1. Do you have Bitlocker enabled?
      2. Do you have a TPM chip?
      3. Do you think computer attackers will break into your house to gain physical access to your computer?

If the answers to these questions are either no, or I have no idea what you are talking about, then my advice is to use the wushowhide download from the http://www.blockapatch.com site and hide that update.

I’m still hoping (yes, I’m a pollyanna at heart) that Microsoft will fix this mess, but in the meantime, it hasn’t installed, it won’t install, it will keep trying to install and annoy you.

Or 4. Do you think your laptop could be lost or stolen during travel?

Hi, sorry – not sure if I am in right place – KB5034441 Installed fine on my HP Notebook (Windows 10 – 22H2 – should I uninstall it so that it can be hidden or just leave it alone?

        • #2633046

Leave it alone. It does no harm.

some steam games won’t let you play without this install. I”m locked out of a game because this security install won’t actually update.

How do you know it’s this update that is the problem?
The update doesn’t affect Windows operation, it’s a BitLocker bypass fix.

Have you tried hiding the update via WuMgr?

              cheers, Paul

I can not believe they expect school children and Granma’s to follow those Diskpart instructions! They have to be kidding, right?

The good news is that this is also impacting businesses and I’m hoping someone has Satya on speed dial and is giving them a piece of their mind.  This isn’t good for businesses either and there are a LOT of Windows 10 deployed.

Susan, I cannot say how, but the NET Repair tool along with WUMT seems to have done the trick!

      Thanks much!

For now, I am avoiding any attempt to install the problem update (KB5034441). As much as I fear I could mess up resizing partitions, I have also began to wonder whether I trust myself more than I trust Microsoft to do the resizes. There are various partition layouts people have and Microsoft would have to take into account all possibilities.

I am seriously thinking that using a tool such as MiniTool Partition Wizard (or some similar tool) may likely make the resizes quick and manageable. But I am still thinking it over.

If I were to do the resizes, I would want to pick a large enough size for the recovery partition to avoid revisiting again in the future. I wonder what size that would be?

I feel like I have been dropped into a Dirty Harry movie (Do you feel lucky?).

So much for the quiet stable W10 we all hoped for. First Copilot AI and now KB5034441). Hey, why doesn’t the AI artificial intelligence take the KB5034441 problem and resolve all the myriad partition layouts that will be encountered? (Just kidding).

Or do I trust myself more than Microsoft and AI combined?

Maybe the one action people can and should take is to save a listing of their current partition layouts somewhere. Having a full image backup would be great before letting any fix related to KB5034441 run.

But, yes, for now, wait to see what Microsoft comes up with.

Someone in business said they standardized on a 1 gig recovery partition and are now glad they did.

If you are on pause wushowhide won’t work.

Can you please elaborate on this — I think I’m having the same issue (https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/instructions-for-un-hiding-an-update-using-wushowhide/#post-2696506), but am not sure exactly what you mean and how to resolve it.  Thank you

Can you please elaborate on this

If you set Windows update to pause any 3rd party app that uses Windows update (wushowhide, WUmgr.. won’t scan for updates and will have nothing to show.

Ok, then that’s probably not the case with me given the second screenshot here — https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/instructions-for-un-hiding-an-update-using-wushowhide/#post-2696506 .  Or am I not understanding this correctly?
