Can confirm. That’s why I have been using those GP settings rather than the windows update GP settings. Also works after an install or upgrade if set prior to 1st check for updates.

Edit to add: When installing or upgrading from .iso.

Yet I still have to disable that button because some users think the sky is falling if there’s updates available.  Computers patch when I tell them to, not when a user thinks they know better.

“If you have certain settings in place, you DON’T get offered up the preview updates.”

      Which is great.

      Nice tip about disabling IE11.

Alex5723., is a tip on how do you disable Edge from running on Windows 10? IE11 is working better for me that Edge. Also disable all updates on Windows 10?

        • #2354533

Is there a reason you want to block all updates?  What’s not working with Edge?  As IE is no longer supported and thus it’s not wise to be using it.

Like many that come here, we do not want MS to spy on us with Telemery data, key logger called improve typing and updates that break our computers. This is why I use Windows Xp and agent switcher for many sites. I will not touch Windows 10 spyware with a ten foot pole.

            • #2355016

There are ways to block telemetry  versus running a platform that is so old and out of date.  I’m wincing reading you say you run XP and browse on it?  Ouch.

Aria is a Microsoft employee and thus it’s the first time I’ve seen confirmation from someone tasked with Windows update information acknowledging what PK and others have found.

AKB2000016 Section 5 explains how to achieve this from over a year ago..and even then, it’s been longer still within WUfB settings. Local so called, ‘experts’ thought it was for ‘insiders’ only ROTFL, it seems ‘outsiders’ know more from actually testing rather than ‘toying with their own vanity’ 😉

You can block Windows 10 updates with the free portable O&O ShutUp 10.

You don’t need to block Edge, just set IE11 to be the default browser.
You can block Edge by renaming its folder. You can also uninstall Edge.

Sorry I need to confirm, I think I missed posts on it. Does this mean if I have GPedit settings for target release, deferral days for quality updates, etc., I can click “Check for Updates”and it will download updates as per my GPedit settings – I have target release 2H02, quality update deferral days 30 in Windows update for Business.

Also have: Do not include drivers with windows updates and configure automatic updates (2 Notify & download) in Windows Update settings, but those are not in the above section of GPedit.

    • #2354589

configure automatic updates (2 Notify & download

If you configure GP ‘notify’=2 there is no need for deferrals.
You will get a list of pending updates waiting for you to download/install.
You can hide the ones do don’t want.
