I noticed a week or so ago that nothing shows up when I search windows on my laptop. Something I’ve never seen before. Three updates were installed, so far, in October. I ran the index troubleshooter and it appears to be working now.

Is there a likely cause for this? I assume something in the update could have caused it but wondered if there is something else that more commonly causes this problem.

Use the free portable Everything app.

      Search takes just a sec.

Yes, I think you are correct, I have seen similar issues.
Sometimes (not very often, 5 times a year I would say, but I support hundreds of devices, so its pretty low probability to happen) updates broke Outlook index, and searching was not working well.

Its not difficult to fix it, just select “indexing options”, select the item you have problem with, click “Advanced” and “Rebuild”.

Depending on your data size, the index will be rebuilt. I suggest to let this run through the night.
