AskWoody LoungerJanuary 13, 2005 at 7:25 am #921440Select Start | Run…
Type regedit and press Enter.
If you want to back up the entire registry, make sure that the root of the tree structure in the left hand panel (My Computer) is selected.
Select File | Export…
Specify a location and a name and click Save. This will create a .reg file.
If you want to backup your user settings, select HKEY_CURRENT_USER instead of This Computer, then File | Export…Opening a .reg file from Windows Explorer, or selecting File | Import… will merge the settings in the .reg file with the registry. It’s probably not a good idea to import a file representing the entire registry.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 13, 2005 at 11:35 am #921507Your post begs an unsolicited suggestion, so I hope you don’t mind. Since you said you have “…No disk…” it would be in your best interests to come up with a method to backup your entire hard drive, if you haven’t already done so. With the decent costs of hard drives or external (USB) drives, “disk imaging” is a fast, easy to use and fairly inexpensive way to start a regular backup regimen. Many of us here in The Lounge recommend Acronis – online backup but there are other imaging products out there which all work pretty much the same way.

AskWoody_MVPJanuary 13, 2005 at 3:26 pm #921616Also, to go along with Al, if you have no disks, because of the way the OEM builds machines, there should be a way to make “System CDs”.
What make and model is this machine? We may be able to help with seeing if you can make system CDs.DaveA I am so far behind, I think I am First
