Movie Maker came preinstalled on my Dell computer. I have no intention of using it, can it be removed and how?

I have another question: I found an update for Microsoft .NET Framwork 3.0 In Microsoft Update. Do I need .NET Framework? I have no idea what it is or what it does, so it seems like it’s extra baggage, If I can unload it, please explain the prodcedure.

Movie Maker is considered an integral part of Windows now. I’d just leave it alone.

.NET Framework is runtime support for programs using .NET. You may one or more already installed that use it. If you don’t you probably will. So, don’t unistall it keep it updated.

For the answer to the .NET Framework 3.0, it is the same answer you got for .NET Framework 2.0 – post 646,235

As for Movie maker, Microsoft do not provide a way to uninstall it. A way to manually remove it is shown in this post but I would not recommend doing it.

I agree with Joe and Tony on this one. You’ll never know when you’ll need the .NET so relax you-self and don’t worry about it. As for Movie Maker, I’ve not had any need for it either for all these years, BUT suddenly, out of the blue the other day, came a need to stitch a few video files together for someone and I used Movie Maker to do the job, with no prior experience on my part other than the use of my mouse. I looked just now and Movie Maker takes up 8-10 meg on my drive. Don’t worry ’bout it Gloria, the day will (might) come when you too can do some video editing and you’ll already have the “freebie” right at your fingertips!

Another convenient use for MovieMaker. I had a little 54mb AVI movie (6 seconds). After running it through MovieMaker using the defaults for the best result (largest file) it became a 786kb (a 68 to 1 reduction) this enabled me to email the file with no restriction.
