I have had a bit of a search around but can’t seem to find any good comparison guides between Windows Mail (which I use) and Windows Live Mail which replaces it. I like emails stored on my pc rather than at some remote location and I understand that WLM can also do this. But why change, what are the serious benefits, if any?

      Ron,
I agree with you. I want my email on my machine NOT up there where Lord knows who is snooping. It is a KNOWN fact that AOL’s machines will snoop, as some of the ad’s displayed on one’s AOL browser are based on email content.

Thanks all for your inputs … I did not realise that you could ‘try before you buy’ eg give it a go but revert back to Windows Mail if not liked. I thought that it would be a ‘non return valve’. I’ll chew this one over but my initial thoughts are why change something that works for me and that so far has been 100% reliable in operation. At least it does what I need just now … I think! I do also have a hotmail acct just for using the Messenger webcam stuff and the occasional email but I find that using my internet providers email is quite OK given that if I am away I can use their webmaster facility to pick up any emails that I have not read.

Why not give it a try? I had my doubts and was annoyed at the loss of switching identities in Outlook Express, not available in Windows Mail. But I’ve warmed to the convenience of having the 1 programme (Windows Live Mail) check 2 email accounts with my ISP and 4 “throw away” hotmail/msn accounts all in one go.From what I can tell the hotmail accounts are the same as as they ever were i.e. messages stored on their server until you delete them, and it seems the 2 main accounts from my ISP are only accessed to download the new messages as before and they remain on the ISP server or your computer just the same as using Windows Mail/Outlook Express. If you’re not happy with Live Mail after a trial period just uninstall and go back to using Windows Mail/Outlook/Outlook Express?

I DID tried it and it was a waste of my time. If I wanted a Hotmail account I would use Hotmail.

Windows Live Mail is the follow on product to OE & Windows Mail. WLM is a new product that is supposed to be safer and more stable than its predecessors. It is not supposed to have the same database issues that plagued OE & WM. With the new version of Windows, WLM will be the e-mail program that MS pushes. Microsoft is moving some of the builtin apps to the Windows Live group. In the mean time we’ll see a full release of the Windows Live suite and it will most likely have its components refreshed much more often than Windows itself.
