I’m on Win10 21H2 and I still use Windows Live mail (inherited from Win7) as a mail program.

I have read in the MS Defcon alert that some old mail programs might not work with the new authentication system. Does anyone use Windows Live Mail and does it still work after the last cumulative update?

Windows Live Mail 2012 (Windows Essentials 2012)

      Remember, it’s a separate program.

Does anyone use Windows Live Mail and does it still works after the last cumulative update ?

Yes, still in use. I was on Windows 10 prior to updating to Windows 11 — sailed right through all Windows versions.

I can’t say categorically that Windows Live Mail 2012 will work for the latest Windows 10 Cumulative Update, but I can state that it continues to work through the latest Windows 11 Cumulative Update and beyond.

FWIW, I ditched the comfortable experience of Livemail 2012 a few years back as it went out of support and moved to Mozilla Thunderbird.
I do wish Livemail would be resurrected and improved upon for this decade..I live in hope

What you are going to get is the new Outlook app sometime next year most likely. Microsoft is looking to replace all desktop versions of Outlook with this app. The bundled Windows mail client will probably be among the first. The traditional Outlook desktop client will probably be the last. See Getting started with the new Outlook for Windows (microsoft.com) for more information about the current state of the new app.
