Windows Live Mail 2011 Won’t Open

Windows Live Mail 2011 running on Windows 7 will not open. The following message is displayed when I try to start Windows Live Mail: “Windows Live Mail has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.”

I have tried restarting the laptop several times but the problem persists.

Any ideas how I can get Windows Live Mail 2011 to open?

reads to me like you have a corruption. Have you thought to backup your existing mail in the (by default) user profile then attempt to fix using control panel> Add/Remove> Windows Live Mail> repair? I no longer use Live mail but am pretty sure this is how I fixed it in the past.

Windows - commercial by definition and now function...

Microfix – I tried repairing Microsoft Live Mail as you suggested but I am still having trouble opening it. However, I did discover that sometimes the following procedure works:

Right click the Microsoft Live Mail icon and then click “New contact”.
Right click the Microsoft Live Mail icon and then click “New event”.
Right click the Microsoft Live Mail icon and then click “New email message”.
Wait a minute or two, right click the Microsoft Live Mail icon, and then click “Windows Live Mail”.

I will look for additional solutions.

You could download from Microsoft Windows Live Essentials 2011 : Microsoft : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive and reinstall.

joep17 – I was hoping to fix my Windows Live Mail without reinstalling it. But thanks for the idea and link.

I just noticed that I have over 7,000 emails in my inbox. Could it be that such a large number of emails is causing the problem?
