I am trying to email a club newsletter to 95 members but WLM locks up on one incorrect address and will not proceed to send to any. I am certain that in the past any incorrect address(es) would be bypassed and the others would be send to the recipients. I would then receive a message back telling me which emails were undeliverable and I could resolve those few.

However, this may have been when I was using Outlook Express because it does not work like that now in WLM.

I have completed this exercise successfully before in WLM, but I suspect it may have been when all recipients addresses were correct.

Does anybody know of a way to resolve this or should I give up on WLM and use another email program? Any suggestions?

I suspect WLM 2011 did not install correctly because this is exactly the way mine works. I would uninstall and reinstall WLM 2011. If the problem continues, You could always try WLM 2009.

Many if not most ISPs limit the number of recipients in any one email. You should however get an error.

Are you sure WLM is hanging? How long have you waited for it to continue?

If you are sure it is hanging then is it when you enter the address, after you click send, or some other point in the process?

Finally managed to send to all but 3 recipients at 12.30am this morning. This after the original attempt at about 12.30pm yesterday afternoon. Between these times I manually and individually removed each of the 2 addresses WLM locked up on. Twice copying and pasteing contents to a new message so I could then use the modified Group of contacts minus the offending address.

Now I don’t know if WLM would have sent anyway after 12 hours, or if it was due to what I did.

The other thing is it then sent to all recipients bar one, and returned an undeliverable error message for this one. This is how I would expect it to work and I am sure it has done so in the past.
The two offending addresses were those I had added to Contacts and Group immediately prior to the first attempt at sending. Maybe this had something to do with the problem?

Thanks Ted, I will try reinstalling if the problem persists.
Joe, it hung with an error about 5 seconds after clicking send.

      What was the error?

      The error message was:

The message could not be sent. The setting for your outgoing email [SMTP] server might need to be configured. To find the server settings for ‘xxxxxxxxxx@clear.net.nz’, please contact your email service provider.
      Subject ‘AGM and Social’
      Server Error: 550
      Server Response: 550 5.2.1 User unknown: xxxxxxxxxx@clear.net.nz
      Server: ‘smtp.paradise.net.nz’
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC79
      Protocol: SMTP
      Port: 25
      Secure(SSL): No

I have blanked out the address name. (Neither of which is mine!)
A solution mentioned on various forums, including MS Support, (KB290808) is to check the ‘My server requires authentication’ box in ‘Properties/Server’ for the problem account. However, when I do this I am asked for a password when attempting to send the message. None of any possible passwords is accepted.
As mentioned previously, the message has now been sent to 73 of 75 recipients. I have re-created it to try and find a solution to an annoying problem.
      Help!!!

Are you sure the addresses are correct of the 2 not able to be sent? Even one small mistake will cause the address to be rejected.

SMTP 550 error codes are generated from the recipients server. Generally, it is not an issue with the sending email program.

Are you sure that you have a valid email address?

Ted. I sent to 1 recipient (with known correct address) plus 74 others as BCC.
3 of these 74 had an incorrect address. Only after removing 2 of the bad addresses (1 at a time), was the email sent. I then received a return message to my inbox saying the third bad address could not be delivered.

I am trying to determine why WLM will not work logically and send the message to all ‘good’ addresses and return an ‘undeliverable’ message for the incorrect ones – as it finally did in my example above. This is how it has worked in the past, but that may have been in Outlook Express. Managing to correctly decipher handwritten email addresses can be very difficult so to get a large number 100% correct is unlikely.

Joe. Do you mean the recipients email address or mine? I know my email address is valid. See above.

      I mean the recipient address.
