For the second time in three weeks, I have installed a piece of software on my PC that did something that kept Windows from booting in normal mode (this time it was Roxio’s Easy Cd & DVD Burning). In both cases, I could boot into Safe Mode. However, when I went to the Control Panel and started the Add/Remove Software applet, and then tried to remove the software I had just installed I received a message that Windows Installer was not available in Safe Mode. Does anyone know how you are supposed to uninstall software that is preventing you from booting in anything but Safe Mode if the uninstaller will not run in Safe Mode?

At a command prompt, type this:
      REG ADD “HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSafeBootMinimalMSIServer” /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D “Service”
      Then type:
      net start msiserver
      OR
Download an run a small utility from here .

Edited to add: The first command allows the Windows Installer to start in Safe Mode on a permanent basis. The downloaded executable will allow the Installer to run on a one time basis. See this article .
