Windows 10 22H2 (including July updates)

In the past I’ve been able to hover my mouse pointer over a file name to get various details.  Example:  Hovering over a video file would tell me the the data rate and size among other things.  However, now when I hover over the exact same file, I don’t get anything other than type, date modified, and file size.

I do have media info installed (that works with a right click). I’m not quite sure if MediaInfo is the issue or it’s Windows File Explorer.

I don’t have MediaInfo installed and File Explorer shows me just the file type, size and length of a video file.

That must be a function of the MediaInfo app. What you ask: To change what file details show when the mouse hovers over the file can be done, but requires some advanced editing of the data in the Registry key for each file association. Example: adding System.Video.FrameHeight;System.Video.FrameWidth to the InfoTip valve for a .mp4 file in the Registry will add Frame Height and Frame Width values to the hover info for all .mp4 files in File Explorer. While these edits are not difficult to do, you would have remembered making such Registry edits (unless you ran a reg file for these changes).

        OK.  That’s a good idea.

I updated to the latest installer based version of MediaInfo 24.06 and that’s when I lost the information on hovering.  Prior to that, it was all there (no registry editing or reg file).  So, now I’m thinking that the version update did it.   Not sure though.  I was looking through the MediaInfo settings and hoping for the option, but no such luck.

            • Nope Alex, that doesn’t work for me.  The options are enabled and I tried disabling and then re-enabling.  Do you have it installed?   Can you verify that it does or does not show additional media information (i.e. resolution, frame rate, data rate) when you hover over the file name.
