I have been running Windows 98SE for a few years now without issues, but over the past few months I have noticed that whenever I copy or rename files in Windows Explorer, Windows hangs for about a minute before “waking up” and resuming normal operation. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
    Thank you.

Do you have any removable drives like a ZIP drive on the system that do not have a disk in them? If so, does the same thing happen if there is a disk in the drive. Does the same thing happen if you turn off your virus protection software?

Thank you all for your prompt response! Legare you were spot on with the clue about the ZIP drive! I don’t have a ZIP drive installed, but a few months ago I borrowed an external drive to download some software to my PC and guess what … the software was still installed. Uninstallation of the ZIP drive software fixed the Windows Explorer problem.
        Thank you again!!
