I’ve installed this again when it was offered as an update as AntiSpyWare is nearing its end. I scheduled scans for midnight daily which so far have not occurred and Defender is now telling me a scan is overdue and I should run one and preferably schedule runs regularly!!
Has anyone else had this problem and if so is it fixable? I know it’s beta but surely this shouldn’t happen?

I don’t know a solution but I can assure you that it’s not normal. Windows Defender hasn’t missed a scheduled scan since I switched to it six weeks ago. I hope someone else will have a useful suggestion.

One place to look is the System Event Log around the time you expect the scan to happen. The “Source” shows as WinDefend.

I’ve also not found any problems with it!

      Peter,
I would try scheduling it to run either before or after midnight (i.e. 11:55 pm or 12:05 am.)
I’ve found that midnight or noontime tends to ‘mix up’ some programs.
Not a Defender user, but this is what my instincts are telling me.

Thanks for all of your responses. So far Defender still won’t run the scheduled scan. Does anyone know if there is a command-line function so I could use an external scheduler?

Have you checked the Event Log yet? Also, check Windows Defender (Beta 2) newsgroups for search results on “scheduled scan” in the Defender General newsgroup. There are several threads depending on your exact symptoms plus a link to

          Thanks for the pointers Joe.
None of them seem appropraite to my situation. Everything seems ok it just won’t runa scan unless |i do it manually.
I can’t find the event log. I assumed it would be in Admin Tools but all the shortcuts in there have disappeared and I’ve never used it before so I’m not sure how to find it!

To view the event logs right click My Computer and select Manage. The Event Viewer should be Under System Tools. Just press the plus sign and make sure to check all the logs as sometimes things are not logged where you might expect them.
