I don’t know if this forum is the place to post this – perhaps a separate Win 8 Phone forum might be useful (???). Anyway, here’s my question. I have a new Windows 8 phone (love it!!!) and have the Hotmail App installed. I have no problem at all in downloading Hotmail messages to both my phone and to my PC (the latter using Outlook with Outlook Connector.) I expected a “true” synchronous handling of messages – maybe that’s a pipedream. I get all messages downloaded and can read, reply, etc. from my phone. When I read and delete on my PC, those messages still appear on my phone (perhaps they have already been dowloaded prior to me checking mail from my phone). When I delete a message on my phone, it is deleted from the server AND frrom my Inbox on my PC. Ugh! I was wondering why messages I had read but not deleted on my PC disappeared when I tried to get rid off those messages from my phone. Maybe I expect too much. I don’t like the idea of filling up my mailbox on the phone, which has limited storage capability, with messages I don’t want to keep on my phone but do want to save on my PC. Any ideas on how I could have my cake and eat it too?

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody MVPJanuary 4, 2013 at 7:24 pm #1366333That is the way standard IMAP works. The email server is the central repository. Individual devices download a local copy of email from the server and leave the email on the server. Then the server is updated with changes from each device. Each device is synced with the server periodically (usually the sync time is set per device).
