I don’t know if this forum is the place to post this – perhaps a separate Win 8 Phone forum might be useful (???). Anyway, here’s my question. I have a new Windows 8 phone (love it!!!) and have the Hotmail App installed. I have no problem at all in downloading Hotmail messages to both my phone and to my PC (the latter using Outlook with Outlook Connector.) I expected a “true” synchronous handling of messages – maybe that’s a pipedream. I get all messages downloaded and can read, reply, etc. from my phone. When I read and delete on my PC, those messages still appear on my phone (perhaps they have already been dowloaded prior to me checking mail from my phone). When I delete a message on my phone, it is deleted from the server AND frrom my Inbox on my PC. Ugh! I was wondering why messages I had read but not deleted on my PC disappeared when I tried to get rid off those messages from my phone. Maybe I expect too much. I don’t like the idea of filling up my mailbox on the phone, which has limited storage capability, with messages I don’t want to keep on my phone but do want to save on my PC. Any ideas on how I could have my cake and eat it too?

I would think there is an option on the phone to set the delete from server option. I do have that option on my Android phone with my ISP email. Check the account options, phone options, etc.

I think that option only applies to POP accounts Ted. Not Hotmail or IMAP.

That is the way standard IMAP works. The email server is the central repository. Individual devices download a local copy of email from the server and leave the email on the server. Then the server is updated with changes from each device. Each device is synced with the server periodically (usually the sync time is set per device).

Well, that explains my GMail syncing.

Hotmail App? Huh? I’ve never seen one?
I had to change my Outlook 2007 settings to MAPI. but yup as Joe said that is the way it works.

I have a Nokia Lumia 822 Win 8 phone. The apps list available from Nokia includes the Hotmail App. I’d be suprised if the Microsoft app store does not list the Hotmail app.

That may be Nokia or WP8 specific. It does not show up on my WP7 HTC HD7.

Doesn’t seem Nokia specific, unless it is just WP8 specific.
