Coincident with running SFC I’m seeing hundreds of errors being logged in event viewer Application. Source is Windows Error Reporting, Event ID is 1001. At SFC completion there is a negative report of any “integrity violations”. Green and clean but yet hundreds of errors during the time of scan.

    Fault bucket 126719632855, type 5
    Event Name: WindowsWcpOtherFailure3
    Response: Not available
    Cab Id: 0

    Or

    Fault bucket , type 0
    Event Name: WindowsWcpOtherFailure3
    Response: Not available
    Cab Id: 0

The above are the two general descriptions logged for the event 1001. I’ve looked at properties and the link, “event log online help”. Beautiful! That link took me to Microsoft’s “12 Days of Deals”! Great!!! (Thanks M’Soft for the holiday hype!) I’ve looked at the CBS log and unless someone has a idea on how to best understand that puppy and home in on the situation I didn’t find direction there. General online search yielded zilch.

So I call on one and all of you more experienced than I to comment, guide or explain why this exists. I do not recall ever seeing this occur from past scans of SFC and have discovered only in recent weeks. Thanks and a happy and safe holiday season!!

Have you downloaded anything recently that could coincide with the date and time stamp of the first error reported ?

Open a Command Prompt (Admin) and enter fsutil resource setautoreset true c: to see if that stops the repetition of those errors.

Thanks, Sudo15. Ran the admin prompt and completed a scan. Scan result was green but generated 753 events during the run. I have downloaded various software/other items most of which I’ve deleted after trial runs but cannot say when this situation started. I can say I first noticed the problem several weeks ago. I do use Disk Cleanup and CCleaner and have removed registry entries in the case of software trials. The PC, in my opinion, runs well and there is nothing of note in Event Viewer, save for this. Also, using SFC over the three plus years I’ve had this computer never resulted in generating these hundreds of errors per run.

Have you had any problems with Windows Update as from my search on those two errors, they seem to relate to Windows Installer.

Go Start – start to type reliability then press enter when View reliability history is highlighted.

That may give you some info that adds some details to errors you can get in Event Viewer when you click on any red crosses or info on the days that have them.

        Sudo15,
Thanks for the tip about using Reliability Monitor. I forgot about checking that item. And I’ve not had any problems with Windows Update that I’m aware of. Updating this PC has never been a problem whether installing security or other types of software updates. Checking Reliability Monitor did show that IAStorDataMgrSvc was not working (component of Intel Rapid Storage Technology which came factory installed). Hmmm… I attempted to start Intel RST via the control panel but a prompt appeared indicating there was a problem pointing to the software. Intel troubleshooting recommended to uninstall/reinstall. As I don’t know what benefit Intel RST is for my computer usage I uninstalled the software and, of course, the IAStorDataMgrSvc problem disappeared from Reliability Monitor. After, ran a SFC scan and the scan came back green but hundreds of WER events were logged. Did a restore to November 22 with same result. Removed Malwarebytes Anti Ramsomware beta as I had installed that recently but no effect on WER logging. So, that’s where I am for the moment. Question. Does your SFC perform without WER events being logged?

The Windows Error Reporting service default setting is Manual (Triggered) – you could try manually starting it to see if it will start, but what sort of event errors and ID numbers are being reported.

You should reinstall IRST and see if that clears up other problems.

      Sudo15,
I’ve started the WERService and it is running and I’ll get back to it. I was looking at Intel’s web site last night for the correct download for my platform. As I did not see one (the version I had was 11.6.0.1030) I thought I’d take advantage of their chat option to get the latest or the link to what I had. I did download what I thought was a version that was correct from Intel but during installation a prompt indicated it was not for my platform, Win8.1 x64. I scanned the link you included and will read with interest later. Some computers operators voice concern about RST being a processor hog and not much benefit. If there is benefit to me by having it, as I wrote, I don’t see it during operation. Apparently, the positive is under the hood. Thanks again for staying w/me.

You actually got thru? Mmm good to know. From my experience in recent years when I go looking on the Intel site for drivers all I end up with is the “Intel® Driver Update Utility”. I also came to the conclusion that IRST was a waste of space if not using Raid. If it works let it be.

        🍻

Just because you don't know where you are going doesn't mean any road will get you there.

          Hey there, wavy
“Moises (12/13/2016, 10:46:12 AM): You are very welcome. Thank you for using Intel® Live Chat!” That’s how the chat ended. I got a quick connection and direction which as it turned out I’d been to the suggested page. I read the link Sudo15 provided and links at Webopedia and Dell. As I had the IRST software and never paid any attention to it until now I learn that I would need two hard drives of equal size and capacity according to Dell and that “Note: Please remember that RAID as discussed in this article will not survive the removal or replacement of the CMOS battery.” That too from the Dell knowledge base page. All in all I’m coming to understand that RAID was never configured or active on my PC, that IRST was more a factory installed accessory that could be used if one wanted. Now if anyone reading this has a better understanding correct me, please. I’m going to read more but it looks like, unless corrected, dropping IRST off my programs and features list will not be a loss. But… still not understanding why WER sucks up hundreds of errors when SFC scans.

Run another sfc /scannow as the CBS log can be volatile and then download SFCFix.exe.

      http://thetechcookbook.com/automatic-sfc-corruption-repair-sfcfix-exe/

That can repair some or all of the files that sfc /scannow cannot and will produce its own report.

If the list of corruption is complex then I would advise you to head over to the Sysnative Forum as it says in the article – you may have to wait a few days before you get a response, but those guys are usually pretty good when it come to resolving file corruption.

      Sudo15,
I’ll get to it as soon as I can and thanks for the guidance.
