This is probably simple but it has frustrated me for a year. The search function in Windows Explorer to simply search the Windows Explorer files. The Search icon on the right of the desktop will not search Explorer even though I state “Files”. It only goes out to the internet. There should be a simple icon in Explorer itself but it isn’t there.
    Thanks

Windows key + F will give you a File search.

Thank you very much. I figured it was simple, I just couldn’t come up with it.

Well, Win key + F does not sort Windows Explorer I found out this morning. It took me to the same set of internet files that had came up before even though I designated “files”. All I am trying to do is have Windows Explorer open and find a file name in a folder. That shouldn’t be so hard except it is a big folder. Windows XP you could easily sort in Explorer so there must be some way to do this. Thanks

I guess I don’t understand exactly what you are looking for. When I’m at the desktop and type Windows key + F, I get a file search sidebar. I can type anything an get a list of matching files (no internet hits). Clicking on a file in the list will open it. Right clicking on the File will open File Explorer with the file highlighted in its folder listing.

Actually what I have just found is: Click on the folder I want and then use Alt and F for the find box and enter term. It works great. The other way doesn’t work for me. Anyway thanks.
