I run Windows 7 Pro and Office Professional 2007 on a custom desktop computer. I have done so for years. According to my Installed Updates list, the only program that I have installed or updated this year (including Windows) was an update to Google Earth Pro on Jan 16, 2025. On 2/6/2023, I installed 3 updates: Security Updates for Microsoft Windows (KB5022338); Update for Microsoft Windows (KB5020861), and Update for Microsoft NET Framework 4.7.1 (KB5020869). If any other updates have been installed in the last few years, they do not appear on my Installed Updates list.

Recently (not sure the exact date, but within the last month I am sure), I have noticed a change in the way my text is displayed. For writing I almost always use the CG Times font, size 12. I have attached Windows7TextDisplayIssue.pdf. There are two copies of the header and two lines of text. The top entry, titled ‘Dr.Janowicz_12_4_2024.docx’ is from a Word file I created on 12/5/2024. The lower entry ‘Dr.JanowiczWordComparison.docx’ I just created today. They both use font CG Times 12, and the page widths are identical. Yet in the lower entry, the text is blacker, and takes up less horizontal space (the white space between each character is less than in the top entry.

I have gone through everything on the Word file, and on my computer, to see if I can determine why the differences, but I can find nothing.

I hope that someone on this forum, with more knowledge of Windows and Word than I have, can help me solve this issue. Not only am I curious as to why the difference, but I prefer the text on the top entry better, and I can no longer reproduce it.

Maybe the video driver is the issue? Have you checked for a newer / older driver?
