The only reason Win 7 is dethroning XP is Microsoft is discontinuing support for XP. Other wise I would still use it.

XP was at the top for longer than any other Microsoft OS thanks to Vista being released before it was ready. It will be interesting to see if Windows 7 can stay on top as long. I would be surprised if Windows 8 will have as long a life even though I’ve grown to like it with Classic shell installed.

Win XP has had a what, 12 year run so far. That’s pretty good! It will continue for quite some time as well, but Win 7 is picking up speed, especially with enterprise users. I do personally think Win 8 will make a nice run for it as well. A lot may depend on MS. What is Win 9 going to be like? I have observed in the past that people that like something are often very quiet about it (how often do you call to complement someone), but people that do not like something are very boisterous in their complaints. I think this is the case for Win 8 as well. It’s human nature to do so.

Going right back to the days of MS-DOS, Microsoft have followed the pattern of a ‘good’ operating system being followed by a lemon. On that basis Windows 8 will not last for very long.

From what I’ve seen the interface was designed by my 4 yo grandaughter.
