We are getting the error “Microsoft Office SDX Helper stopped working” on all of our Windows 7 clients which are using Office 365 Business.

It does not appear on Win 7 clients with older Office versions and not on Win 10 clients as well.

It seems like the error message comes up 2 times in a row. After that there’s some pause and then it happens again, 24/7.

Appearing mostly in Outlook, but sometimes in other Office software like Word, too, and even when not using the Office products.

    Solutions tried:

Sadly there is not a lot of information about this online.

I have tried to repair the installation via System Control > Deinstall Programs > Change > Full Repair (Online Repair) and I have aswell tried to completely deinstall and cleanly install again.

    Both solutions did not work.

Disabled two Scheduled tasks that run sdxhelper.exe and a week alter they were enabled again.

    Error report in Event viewer:

It does seem quite common over the last 10 days, doesn’t it?

Did you see that one person in this Microsoft Community thread was advised by MS to roll back to an earlier Office build (although later than yours), and that presumably solved that particular case:

      Microsoft Office SDX Helper Crash

(sdxhelper.exe crashed for me on Windows 10 three times in one week, but that was three weeks ago now.)

I don’t understand why Microsoft never respond to any problems of their users. SDXHELPER.exe seems not to to affect anything when it is closed or not.

Have your filemanager seach for the file “sdxhelper.exe” in the drive C. Once found right click on the filename, click on “Properties – Compatibility” and check the box “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select “Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and click OK. The pop-up error message will no longer pop up. I really donot care if sdxhelper.exe is operating or not as long as it does not give me the annoying error popup, since everything works OK.
