I have a task bar at the bottom of my Windows 7 screen. I also had a “dock” that could be placed on any side of the screen. However it was getting in the way when I worked in Lightroom or Photoshop. Microsoft gave me an option to close it, promising I could open it in Start. HOW DO I DO THIS???? HELP!!!
    Thanks in advance,
    Georgette

What is this ‘Dock’ you mention?
Object dock or Rocket Dock or similar?

Are you referring to the “Toolbar(s)” you can create from your start bar at the bottom of the screen.

Windows 7 called this a “dock.” It is different from the toolbar I have at the bottom of my screen theat contains the start button, windows internet icon windows explorer icon, and any icons for programs that you open (such as Outlook).

When the dock was there, you could designate which side of the screen you wanted to place it (top, bottom, left or right) and pull icons for programs you wanted to keep handy.

Sounds like the wonderful application called fences – allows you to collect ions in various ‘fenced’ screen areas?

      Hi Georgette,

I am aware of a Dock that comes with Toshiba Satellite laptops that was licensed to Toshiba from Stardock. Stardock may have licensed it to other brands as well. Whatever computer you have, if you have not uninstalled the Dock, you should find it on the Start Menu | All Programs and click on any menu folders named Toshiba (or HP, Dell, etc., etc.).

On my Toshiba, there are two Toshiba folders shown in the Start Menu, one is named My Toshiba and the other just plain Toshiba. I do not remember which one held the Dock executable before I uninstalled the program. You can type Dock in the Start Menu Search box to see if the executable can be located on your hard drive.

If you did uninstall the Dock, then look for it on any Applications disk that come with your computer, or you should be able to download it from your computer manufacturer’s web site. You should be able to reinstall it again.

Sounds like he is talking about Dell Dock that comes with Dell systems. If so, go to START – All Programs – Dell – Dell Dock. That should restore it.

Robbie, you hit the nail right on the head with this. I have handled too many laptops in the last week. It was a client’s Dell I was working on that I saw the Dell Dock installed on. For some reason, I thought it had been on my Toshiba.

Maybe I hit my head real hard this morning, but if I did, I can’t remember that either!

Many thanks… you are my heros, as usual. It is a Dell Dock and is right where you said it would be: START – All Programs – Dell – Dell Dock.
Many thanks. I wonder if I can pin a shortcut to this to the TOOLBAR at the bottom???

You should be able to pin a shortcut for the Dock just like any other program. We’re glad you have your Dock back!

Got it on the taskbar. So I can close the dock when it gets in the way and restore with the icon on the taskbar. SWEET!
      Again, Many thanks,
