    Hi,
I have a problem accessing my Canon PIXMA MG4150 ‘All-in-One’ printer/scanner, using my new Laptop, which has Windows 7 Pro. 64 bit. When trying to use the scanner, using a couple of different Photo Editing programs, I get an error message :
QUOTE : “??C:WindowsTwunk_16.exe” cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows.” Having done quite a bit of research, there doesn’t seem to be an easy solution to this problem.
The printer/scanner device is connected wirelessly to my laptop and I can access and use the printer OK but not the scanner, from my Laptop.
My previous laptop had Windows 7 Home 32 Bit and everything worked fine on that system.

Since my new version of Windows includes the ‘Windows Virtual PC’ software for running in XP compatibility mode, I thought this might provide a solution…..
So I set up the Virtual XP PC and installed the latest drivers for the Canon PIXMA MG4150 , and the printer is now recognized within the Virtual XP machine.
The printer works fine but again, the scanner is not recognized. I’m using the latest version of ‘Irfanview’ to test the scanning facility and when I click on ‘Select Scan/TWAIN source…’, The ‘Select Source’ window just remain blank, so I cannot select the scanner. Looking in ‘Irfanview’s’ help facility for TWAIN, within the text, it states the following QUOTE : “Note: this dialog is shown/managed by Windows, not by IrfanView.”
I know that the scanner facility is working, since I can access it OK using ‘Irfanview’ on my other laptop (the Win 7 32 bit one)

I even tried disabling the Firewall on the Virtual PC but this did not help. I also checked that the ‘TWAIN’ and ‘Twunk’ files exist in the Windows folder in the Virtual PC’s C_Drive.

I would really appreciate any suggestions as to how I can fix this problem…..

    Thanks !

Then I install AutoCAD 2000 LT

      Use Windows XP
I also try Windows 2000 works great too but did not have a display drive

Check to see if there’s a separate utility to install just for TWAIN scanner interface if you installed just the basic drivers. Epson is/was a separate utility but I don’t know about Canon.

The other laptop is wireless to the printer? If so, the fact that it works fine means it should work that way, otherwise I’d think maybe it’s not sensing the scanner over wireless.

Thanks for your replies 🙂 they are appreciated.

      1. smithdoor : Everything else works OK in the Windows 7 / Virtual XP system so I wouldn’t think there is any point in using an alternative Virtual PC program.

      2. F.U.N. downtown : I try your suggestion to see if there is such a utility. The Win 7 32 Bit laptop also communicates with the printer wirelessly and works fine. I’ll try connecting the printer/scanner via USB just as a test to the Virtual XP PC system – if that works, then it would seem – as you suggest – there is a problem with the wireless link……

      3. wavy : I’ve already emailed Canon customer support about the problem, but as yet, no response…. I’ll wait a few more days and try again….
Thanks for the link to MP Navigator – I’ll give it a try on both Win 7 64 Bit and on the Virtual XP PC. Lots of things to try…..

Problem Solved 😀 I’ve just had a reply from Canon customer support advising me to download a different set of drivers. Did so this afternoon and now everything is working fine on the Win 7 64 Bit installation and wireless link !! So I won’t need the Virtual PC now.

They also provided the link to the MP Navigator referred to by ‘wavy’ but as yet, I haven’t installed that software, since the new drivers allow me to successfully access the printer and scanner from both my photo editor programs. However, I’ll give it a try later…..

Thanks again for all your support 🙂
