    Hi,

I am (or rather was) running Win2K server (just ordinary server) on a dual PIII/500 but it has crunched (won’t boot to GUI at all) and, try what I might, it won’t come back. I’ve tried quite a few things and will try more before I completely give up (any suggestions appreciated).

It was installed on disk 1, partition 1 and I’m pretty sure I can recover the data on partition 2, disk 1 and partition 1, disk 4 by simply rebuilding the boot partition. My problem lies with disks 2 & 3 which are 80Gb disks that have been software striped (using windows 2000 Disk management) and (surprise, surprise) have about 120Gb data on them. Of course being me my most recent backup is about 2 months old so I have a fair number of new and modified files in that.

Can anyone tell me what will happen to my stripe set if I rebuild … will it simply recover or will the data on it be destroyed? If the worse case scenario is there any way I can recover that data?

Thanks in advance for any help.

It’s a dual processor box and one of the processors apears to have given up the ghost! Being a PIII/500 this may cause me problems in getting a replacement.

I’m rebuilding it as I type … I just have to hope that Win2K is enough of an improvement over NT that it will somehow auto-recover my stripe set (NT won’t)! I’m not betting on it! I’m open to suggestions about recovering my stripe set 🙂

Just to let you know that the system is up and running again, unfortunately only on one processor, and by installing over the top of the previous installation I sucessfully recovered the stripe set 🙂
