I’m sure you’ve seen in the headlines that once again Microsoft is being…. well Microsoft.  So far all those ITpros that said “oh it’s okay if Windo

It was only a few days ago that your newsletter article was headlined “Is Microsoft trying to win back our love?”
      Clearly not !

“I personally found that if I unplugged the Ethernet right at the point it asks for the Microsoft account and then clicked the upper arrow back at the top, it then went onto the next screen where it wanted to ask for a user. You must have Internet to start the install process. Windows 11 home will get to an Ethernet connection screen and unless you have a connection, it won’t go forward. BUT. And this is the key here:  After it checks for Internet, asks you for the name of the computer and reboots and then gets to the spot where it asks you for a Microsoft account, disable the Internet connection right then and there. At that point in time it will then allow you to click the big arrow key at the top of the windows back and it will bypass the setup for the Microsoft account.”

This still works.  Local account/non Microsoft account.  Pull the plug RIGHT as it ask for a Microsoft account, hit the arrow key back, then click it to go forward.

Does anybody else wonder how many single use accounts result?

I have seen some posts that say this workaround doesn’t work anymore with the new Windows 11 Pro…

Well, if internet connection is lost in Windows 11 build 22557 and later during OOBE, it will say “Oops, you’ve lost internet connection – Let’s go back and connect to your network again”. After that, the “Let’s connect you to a network” screen will reappear, but will also say “Looks like you’ve lost your internet connection which you’ll need to continue setting up your device.” The messages indicate that Microsoft are closing the loopholes to bypass the internet connection and the Microsoft account requirement. However, I have found a complex workaround that involves step by step instructions in pictures. Here is a link: https://imgur.com/gallery/bKC0cAA?nc=1

Remember, not everything that is in Insider Builds makes it to an official release. That means you should use the Feedback Hub to voice your opinion. Microsoft will be evaluating the response to this change.

The above link is still the same, but the instructions have changed.

Just type in “OOBE\BYPASSNRO” (without quotes). The author has said that once the bypass no longer works, the author will reinstate the alternative account creation method.
