We have some computers on our domain that have been upgraded to Windows 11 22H2 that can no longer map network drives when using DFS Namespaces (\\domain.local\shares\folder). However, if we map a drive using the servername that holds the share (\\fileserver.domain.local\sharedfolder) it will prompt for a username and password and then map the drive. It is odd too that it prompts for the username and password since we are logged into the computer already using a domain account that has access to the share. On the authentication window that pops up there is a message that says it can’t locate a domain controller.
We have also noticed that we cannot run gpupdate /force from the command prompt any longer on these computers either. It makes note about no available domain controllers as well.

Windows 11 computers that have not been upgraded to 22H2 still work fine and can map to the network drives using the DFS namespace. However, computers that worked and then upgraded to 22H2 or started out at 22H2 do not map the network drives.

File shares are currently on servers running Windows Server 2012 (soon to be replaced) and the domain controllers are running Window Server 2016. We did create a new share on a server running Windows Server 2022 and added to DFS. We still could not map to the folder using DFS only the server name. Our domain and forest level are still at Server 2012.

We’ve also noticed that when these computers are domin joined, Network and Sharing center shows the network as a Public Network and says Unauthenticated. If the computer is in a workgroup it shows that it is on a Domain Network. Also when in a workgroup I’m able to map drives using the DFS namespace and entering the username and password.
While the computer is domain joined if I need to perform any administrator functions, when prompt I can use a domain admin account it things work. So there is some domain authentications taking place, but other things don’t work. It is really strange. I’m not finding anything online and am running out of ideas.
Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this type of behavior.
