Hello everybody, seems like we are close to release date of Windows 10 X.

    PC World article

It should be simplified Windows 10. Im looking forward to put my hands on this, before I make judgement. Its possible to try already on VMs, but he experience is bad, emulation very slow.

I am little bit confused, because I thougt that originally Windows 10X was designed for folding screen computers. Then I read, that its designed for ARM architecture. Now its for single screen devices too. Im lost. There seems to be no roadmap/goal for this. Maybe it can do all these things.

So the Windows 10 in S mode wont work anymore?

We wrote last year that Windows 10X now appears to be the new Windows 10 S (Windows 10 in S Mode); after spending some hands-on time with the leaked build, we believe those impressions have been confirmed.

So Windows 10X is Windows 10S? Could it be more confusing please?

    Unsuprisingly:

Microsoft appears to limit the apps that you can download to just those from the Microsoft Store. I was able to download and install Candy Crush Soda Saga from the Store, but the 7Zip utility just seemed to disappear after I downloaded it and tried to install it.

Also I woder about licensing, will the Windwos 10X be “free and slim” OS, which are we mostly looking for?

    Have a good day, friends.

      Windows 10X is Microsoft’s Android

it’s built on Windows IoT/Phone structure, considerably different than Windows 10 S, Windows 10 ARM, or Windows 8 RT

Still a bit unclear.  Is MS getting back into the phone business?  I won’t ever buy anything Apple because of some of their business policies, not because of their SW and Hardware, and I hate android.  I leave my ATT Prepaid android phone off most of the time.  I would love to try a Windows phone.  Any news on this?

Actually, it is Microsoft’s answer to Chrome OS, as used in the Chromebook.  YouTube video’s show it is being very similar, although more limited in functionality.  Microsoft originally planned it for fold-able devices, but has changed course and will now initially release it for laptops and desktops.

Of course, why not to copy-cat something, which competition use. Lets try to make some money there too 🙂 I dont like this approach. As if they already dont have enough “branches of development”. They must put themself everywhere, where its at least possible.

      Thank you!

a quick google or bing search yields quite a bit of information, which totally backs up your comment.

It looks quite good to be honest. Visual impressins are good. Thank you for your link, now I can see, how it really works. First you turn on the device, then you get nags about 18 updates. Then some app which you were not asking for sneaks in unseen – Microsoft Whiteboard! Absolute cutting edge technology!!! Now I dont need paper and a pencil! 🙂 I apologize for my weird sense of humour.. Video has amazing resolution and refresh rate, but switching apps looks somehow.. “non-fluent” and sketchy. Amazing device for 1000 USD, but Im not target customer.

Windows 10 X will be initially targeted to new inexpensive PC devices for education and first line workers. SImpler interface. Very restricted on what can be installed.

It will not be officially available for existing devices.

Microsoft Shelves Windows 10X, It is not Shipping in 2021

…As we head into the spring of 2021, the plans are changing again for the OS. According to people familiar with the company’s plans, Microsoft will not be shipping Windows 10X this year and the OS as you know it today, will likely never arrive. The company has shifted resources to Windows 10 and 10X is on the back burner, for now….

Not surprised, its not first or last project abbandoned. I have no interest in MSFT and its PR announcements anymore. I cant trust their word, its a waste of time to keep in touch with Microsoft and Windows. I refuse to invest my time or money. You lost me completely, Microsoft.

There may be a future where 10X makes sense, but that future is not in 2021 and may not ever arrive.

Microsoft said during their last earnings call that there were 1.3 billion active devices are running the OS each month and with that context in mind, does there really need to be a ‘lite’ version of the OS?

In the sake of earnings, there is no need for “Windows 10 Lite”, but for users the need is there. But why should they bother if they can push you to more expensive hardware.
Also for our planet, the need for slim, cheap and sustainable solution is there. But who cares about the planet, if they can earn more money. Windows 10X? Dead 🙂
