• Windows 10 Search no longer working well

Windows 10 search used to work so well – I loved it. Just touch the Windows key and immediately start tapping keys on the keyboard, typing what I was looking for (name of doc, pic, app, whatever) and after 3 or 4 key-presses search would find it. Brilliant!

But not any more – at least, not since I upgraded to 1809.  Dooh!!!

Not only have MS messed around with the display so that it is more confusing but search doesn’t find anything useful at all – not even if I type the name IN FULL.

What has happened? Is 1809 screwy or was the upgrade process screwed up. I haven’t found any useful help in the internet. Re-registering apps doesn’t help. Is there any steps I can take other than ‘give up’?

Check your search index settings. Open Control Panel, type “search” in the search box, Click on indexing options. Use the Advanced button to force a rebuild of the search index. You may need to add or change folders included in the index.

You may want to use the Settings applet instead. There is a Search section to manage the settings.

Where’s the Search section in Settings?

It’s the last icon in the Settings app. After Update & Security.

On 1809? I have no icon in the Settings app after Update & Security.

Oops. My bad. I’m running a preview build which has the search/cortana split and search added to settings.

Split started in build 18317 for 19H1.

Thats funny. I am running the same build as you and i also do not have the search setting.

              Pro only perhaps?

Yes, that is the Pro version. I don’t have Home to check if it is the same.

Did you move the special folders on your computer?

Try clicking on the filters button to see only documents or folders to see if it makes the results appear.
