    1. If I try to select normal startup in msconfig.exe, it doesn’t stick; always reverts to selective startup.

    2. When I boot[/COLOR] to the Windows[/COLOR] 10[/COLOR] desktop, it always opens a Windows[/COLOR] Explorer window at /windows[/COLOR]/system/ which shows only a Speech folder in the right panel.

    3. Checking my Boot[/COLOR]Manager[/COLOR] using BCDEdit, I see this but I don’t understand what the entries mean or whether any of them are connected to the problems 1 and/or 2:

    Code:

      1. If you have any items disabled in ether the Services tab of MSConfig or the Startup tab in Task Manager, Selective Startup will always be set.

      2. Try disabling all the items in the startup tab of Task Manager. If File Explorer (formally Windows Explorer) no longer opens, re-enable the Start up items in groups to determine which item is at fault.

      3. Boot Manager should have no impact on the problem.

I have already checked. No items are disabled.

I suppose I can try #2 but if I have to reboot each time that’s gonna take a month.

Does the fact that it’s opening the Windows/System folder indicate that it’s a windows service?

That’s why you re-enable in groups rather than one at a time. If the problem goes away, you re-enable the most likely culprits first. It shouldn’t take too long.
Do you have a long list of startup items? I suspect most of them are not necessary. You can use this site to see if they can be permanently safely disabled:

Disabled all non-MS services. Problem still occurs.
