Windows 10 Hyper-V Host, WinXP guest, cannot RDP

I want to be able to RDP from the Host to the Guest for better screen responsiveness and ease of copying files to and from the XP box, but I want no possibility of internet access.  At one point I was able to RDP, but now I cannot, and any attempt results in the “Remote Desktop can’t find the computer…” message

I have tried using the built-in Default switch as well as creating an Internal switch, both with the same results.

If someone could walk me through the troubleshooting process, I would greatly appreciate it.

To RDP to the XP box it needs to be on the same network as the RDP client.
To then prevent internet access on the XP box follow this thread.

Well actually, since it’s a virtual XP box and not a physical computer, there’s an easier way.

See, virtualization hosts have tools for that… in Hyper-V terms, you can have a “private” LAN for the guests, an “internal only” LAN, and an “external” LAN.

Sounds like you might have “private” now but would prefer “internal”.

Then just make sure your Hyper-V host isn’t doing any extra proxying, relaying or such. Shouldn’t by default, but if you’ve installed a proxy or…

(Yes, you can have multiple virtual LANs, of each type even, so you can build all kinds of complicated virtual-only network arrangements inside the host. Works in Hyper-V as well as others… attended some networking/routing courses once, the lab part was done inside VmWare)
